Voters need to read between propaganda lines
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel 10/11/2008

People need to learn how to read between the lines and think for themselves during this year's election. Is John McCain a clone for George Bush? No, that is left wing propaganda. Is Barack Obama a terrorist? No, one hopes that is also propaganda.

Read between the lines, people. Who is the most qualified; what are they hoping to achieve during their presidency? Those are the questions we should be asking, not who is the best looking or who is the most well spoken, because let's face it, there are all kinds of people who are extremely well spoken who are idiots, and all kinds of people who are extremely intelligent who are not well spoken. Which one matters most?

In high school, we learn that campaign promises mean nothing. I believe we were promised one extra vacation day a month if we voted for a certain someone for class president.

Did that happen?

No. Did we expect it to? Yes. We were high school students. But we aren't anymore.

Please look behind the hype and behind the media's well-chosen words and articles meant to sway and make your own well-informed decisions.

I would hate to think our country's top leader will be chosen either because people don't like our current leader or because people like the way a certain candidate combs his hair or turns a phrase.
