While Mainers have long been aware of these facts, some national media outlets and political analysts are just coming to realize how strong her appeal truly is. Chris Cillizza, a political analyst for The Washington Post, summed up his feelings about the Maine Senate race, saying that "this race continues to confound."
Why is Cillizza confounded? Well, he probably assumes like many in the national media that Maine's U.S. Senate race will be close because Maine is a blue state and the Iraq war will hurt Collins. These reporters, however, fail to recognize that voters in this state don't choose their elected officials based on party affiliations, but make those decisions based on performance.
In 2008, Maine voters will reject the blatant partisanship of Allen's campaign and will re-elect a senator who values getting things done over her party label.

Saluting the troops, while standing up in a (stolen) grocery shopping cart?
I'm "confounded," re: why 5K+ Maine's College Republican club's chapter members haven't enlisted in the Army?
Let's show some authentic "patriotism" (vs. spewing relentless partisan rhetoric).
Support Collins's "surge" propaganda; & all Maine College Republican Club chapter's Chickenhawks may enlist in the Army here:

(Pssssssst: there's an "enlistment bonus incentive" in it for 'ya).

...nothing "confounded" about it.

You can bet that Senator Collins will soon be trying to distance herself from Bush's imperial and unconstitutional presidency. For many Mainers it will be too late.report abuse
Mr. Mahoney is entitled to his opinion, but since he chose not disclose his bias, I thought I would.report abuse
However, if you want like the direction the country's going in, vote for Collins, by all means. report abuse
