It is my understanding that the Military Commissions Act does the following four things: (1) took away habeas corpus (I believe the legal right to challenge one's detention in the light of a court hearing that people have had since the 1200s); (2) lets the Bush administration interpret the Geneva Conventions, thus allowing the Bush administration to continue to allow for torture; (3) allows for the Bush administration to determine who is an American enemy combatant (even though this person(s) could be completely innocent), and to detain this person(s) indefinitely while refusing to allow this person(s) to get a lawyer; (4) allows for increased sweeping up of innocent legal immigrants in America and to detain them indefinitely.
It is my understanding that both Collins and Snowe have refused to support Sen. Dodd's legislation that would repeal what I think are some of the horrible aspects of this law.
Therefore, I think both Collins and Snowe should be soundly defeated in upcoming elections and that Bush and Cheney should be impeached.

If none of them looks good, try to recruit someone who will do a good job.
If you wait until the handful of people who participate in primaries to decide, you may not get a very good choice.report abuse
