Abortion-breast cancer link completely unproven

Letter writer Ron J. Stauble Sr. (Dec. 17) claims that abortions cause breast cancer; this has been proven incorrect, according to reliable scientific powers such as the National Cancer Institute.

Certainly, earlier research was inconsistent on this topic; but later, better-designed studies have proven no link.

Women who have been victims of sexual assault, incest and other abuse have been having abortions for much longer than abortion has been legal. So the tsunami of breast cancer cases not appearing yet also seems to cancel the writer's argument.

I certainly hope adoption is a first choice of women who have unwanted pregnancies, but some situations, such as named above, are different.

Providing incorrect information and encouraging lawsuits against doctors based on this misinformation does the public a great disservice and does not advance any cause.
