That would be the hundreds of members of the United Bikers of Maine, who on Sunday seriously undermine their Mr.-and-Ms.-Tough-Guy image by biking from Waterville to Augusta as part of their effort to collect toys for needy kids.
We're talking dolls here. OK, and super soakers as well, which would probably look more at home next to biker leather than Barbie. Or maybe we're just behind the times. Barbie's probably got some studded, fringed chaps, too.
In any event, the bikers are on their annual mission to collect toys for tots. A few hundred will rev up in Waterville, hundreds more will roar in from other areas, and they will all converge -- 1,500 strong -- at the Augusta Civic Center. From there, all that chrome (and doll costumes, too) will wend its way to the Windsor Fairgrounds, where bikers will give the toys over to social-service organizations.
Biker Barbie. We like the sound of it.
