You may have seen the change of season on our newspaper's Sports pages Friday and Saturday.

High school track results, with hundreds of names, ran on the Scoreboard page. There was an article about baseball pitchers limbering up their arms, now that the high school diamonds are clear of snow and quickly drying out.

It's a sure sign that Maine's too-short spring is here. But to high school athletes, especially the ones who star at baseball, softball, tennis, track and lacrosse, it's more than that.

They are in the primes of their lives and for many of them, this is the sports season they've been waiting for.
