West hit a grand slam and started a key double play in the sixth inning.
West also allowed 11 hits and walked six Panthers, but with some timely defense was able to gut his way through a complete game, 8-6 victory.
The win was the first of the season for the Huskies (1-5).
"It was a whole team effort today," said West, who struck out one and threw 129 pitches. "The guys behind me put their heart into it."
After West walked a pair of hitters, Waterville (2-4) had the tying run on base with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Eli Fitzgerald was thrown out by MCI catcher Nick Miller trying to steal third base for the second out.
After Kris Huggins singled to left field, Cam Bishop rounded third too far and was tagged out by Matt Delaney while trying to scramble back to the bag, ending the game.
"Look at all the plays they made on us," Waterville coach Don Sawyer said. "Any mistake we made, they capitalized."
In the sixth, West caught Cam Sawyer's sharp line drive back up the middle, then threw to second base to double off Josh Gaudette.
"We haven't been getting those plays. Today we made those plays," MCI coach John Dean said.
MCI scored seven runs in the third inning. The big hit of the inning was West's grand slam to dead center, which gave the Huskies a 5-1 lead.
"I hit it and I thought it was a pop fly to center," West said.
Waterville responded with five runs in the top of the fourth, all with two outs. Tim Locke and Huggins each drove in a run, and Gaudette singled home a couple more.
Gaudette later swiped home on a double steal to cut MCI's lead to one run, 7-6.
The Huskies picked up an insurance run in the fifth. With pinch runner Ryan Crocker sprinting home, Nick Miller couldn't lay down the suicide squeeze bunt.
Locke tagged Miller as Crocker slid home.
Faxon McLaughlin had three hits and scored a run for MCI. Andy Shorey had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Huskies.
