After winning the Alpine title Friday, the Mt. Abram girls were unable to overtake the Clippers in the final event, a 5k Nordic classic race at Broomhall Stadium. Yarmouth won the girls title with 178 points. Mt. Abram finished second with 225 and Maranacook third with 283.
"I think every kid had their best race of the season," Mt. Abram Nordic coach Buzz Bean said. "We've been looking forward to this meet for a while and planned on tapering the training down to peak at states. I think we finally got it right."
Maranacook's Emily Harriman was fourth in the both the freestyle and classical race to lead the Black Bears.
"I am pleased with what I did, it was really tough competition," Harriman said. "You always hope to do your best and I think I did that.
"We did really well as a team, too. All six of our skiers were in the top 25 and that is awesome for the team."
Jen Monsulick of Maranacook finished seventh, just ahead of Mt. Abram's Emma James in eighth. Cape Elizabeth's Emily Attwood won the race with a time of 16 minutes, 19.8 seconds, while teammate Erin Hatton was second.
Yarmouth's Julianna Lord finished third in the classic race to finish with 64 points and win the Class B Skimeister title. Mt. Abram's Erica Luce took second with 67 points and Monsulick third with 79.
Sam Whittemore and Nolan Pullin led the Maranacook boys in the classical event, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, lifting Maranacook to a second-place finish in the overall championship.
Yarmouth won the title with 154 points, followed by Maranacook at 244 and Fryeburg at 286.
"Our boys and girls had a great state meet," Maranacook Nordic coach Steve DeAngelis said. "I am already excited about next year because we have so many of the kids coming back."
The Maranacook girls finished second in the classical race and third overall in the Nordic combined, while the Black Bear boys were tied for second in the classical race with Caribou, finishing third in Nordic.
Kents Hill's Isaac Kreisman, skiing as an independent, earned eighth in the Nordic race.
