A senior at Messalonskee, Labreck broke her own state records in the 55-meter hurdles and the triple jump, while adding a state record in the high jump at the state championship meet Monday at the University of Southern Maine.
"I was definitely surprised in triple jump," said Labreck, who won with a jump of 38 feet, 41/4 inches. "I've never gone over 37 at a state meet."
The Scarborough girls captured the Class A title with 91 points, easily beating second-place Brunswick, which finished with 71. Messalonskee finished fifth with 30 points, all scored by Labreck.
In the boys championship, Brunswick beat Scarborough, 81-45.
On her second jump of the day in the prelims of the triple jump, Labreck broke the record she set last year with a leap of 36-111/2. She skipped her next jump to rest, then came back in the finals and jumped 38-3 on her first jump of the final. She backed that up with the 38-41/4.
"I was all pumped up and excited (after the first jump in the finals) and I hit 38-4," Labreck said.
Labreck felt she had the best chance at a record in the hurdles, because it is the event she concentrated on the most. With a time of 8.25 seconds, she broke her record by .10 seconds.
"I knew (in hurdles) I would do well because I warmed up really well and I wanted to do well," Labreck said. "It was high jump that surprised me."
Labreck, who was the No. 1 seed in all three of her events, bettered the record of 5-5 set by Brunswick's Danielle Zimmerman in 2001 by one inch. She hit 5-6 on her first attempt at that height.
"I went to 5-7, but I couldn't get that," Labreck said. "I'll try that at New Englands."
Also at the Class A meet, Cony High School senior Bethany Dumas broke the pole vault record for the third straight year. On Monday, Dumas cleared 11-10 to break the mark of 11-6 she set last year.
In the boys meet, Messalonskee's Eric Anderson won the title in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.23. Lawrence High School's Nick Sterling finished third in the 200 with a time of 23.73. Sterling was also third in the 55 and Anderson was fourth.
Anderson was also third in the 200. Also for Lawrence, Michael Brooks was seventh in the 800 (2:05.79). Mt. Blue High School's Eric Marceau was fourth in the mile (4:32.83).
