Brothers Jack and Pete Garrity combined for 20 points in the second half, helping Erskine pull away with a 57-40 win against the Black Raiders.
"We were making easy shots, getting steals, turnovers and uncontested layups," Erskine coach Tim Bonsant said. "Making a layup is a lot easier than a jump shot."
Up 26-22 at the half, Erskine (10-7) outscored 5-11 Winslow 20-9 in the third quarter. The Eagles' full-court pressure forced the Black Raiders into turnovers, and Erskine turned those into points. In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Jack Garrity took a pass from his brother after a steal, and made a layup to put Erskine up 46-31.
Jack Garrity hit a 3-pointer two minutes into the fourth quarter to push Erskine's lead to 51-33, it's largest of the game.
"In the second half we definitely pushed the ball in transition and got a lot of easy shot," said Jack Garrity, who scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. "They lost their legs and we kept going."
"Our inexperienced showed, especially with any kind of pressure," added Winslow coach Scott Wood, who saw his team commit 22 turnovers. "In the first half we tried to go and get it. In the second half we played not to lose and couldn't get anything going."
The Eagles did a nice job containing Winslow's top scorer, guard Adam Puiia. After scoring nine points in the first half, Erskine held Puiia scoreless in the second.
"Devon Veilleux and Jack Garrity did a nice job on (Puiia)," Bonsant said.
Nick Grady scored 13 points for Erskine, while Pete Garrity added 10. James Wood led Winslow with 10 points.
