Marissa Allen scored for the Cougars just under 10 minutes into the game. Mt. Blue (2-1) survived some anxious moments, as Skowhegan hit the post twice in each half and had two penalty corners in the game's final minute. Amanda Deschenes made 24 saves overall for Mt. Blue.
"She played very well, and she wasn't alone," Mt. Blue coach Jeannine Paradis said. "My fullbacks and sweeper played tremendous defense today as well. It was definitely a team effort."
Paradis added that Thursday's game was the first time Mt. Blue scored against Skowhegan (1-1) in her five years coaching the Cougars. The Indians have won the last six Class A state championships.
"Tomorrow, we'll just do band-aid. The mistakes we made today, we'll just work on tomorrow," Skowhegan coach Paula Doughty said. "That's what we always do. I have a feeling on Saturday, we'll come out a lot stronger."
Skowhegan's last loss was Sept. 13, 2005 against Gardiner.
NOKOMIS 2, MT. VIEW 1: Alison Berg scored with 10:58 left in the second half as the Warriors defeated the Mustangs in a KVAC B game in Newport.
Sabrina Vaillancourt scored with 1:11 left in the first half to give Nokomis (3-0) a 1-0 lead. Kristin Masessa tied it with 22:40 left in the second half for Mt. View (1-2). Beth Flanders had four saves for Nokomis, while Lyndsey Cronin had seven saves for Mt. View.
MESSALONSKEE 2, BRUNSWICK 0: Erin Busque and Mackenzie Labbe each had a goal as the Eagles defeated the Dragons in a KVAC A game in Oakland. Alyssa Eugley, Michelle Nadeau and Miranda Tinsman each had an assist for Messalonskee (2-1-0). Beth Ridley made 12 saves for the Eagles. Heather Durkee had 14 saves for Brunswick (1-2-0).
WATERVILLE 7, MCI 0: Chanelle Lansley scored three goals as the Purple Panthers coasted to a KVAC B win over the Huskies in Waterville.
Jenna Jolicoeur added two goals and an assist, while Kayla Pellerin chipped in with one goal and three assists. Grace Skoczenski also scored for the Panthers, and Sara Walker added an assist. Kristin Tormollan made three saves for the shutout for Waterville (1-1). MCI dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
EDWARD LITTLE 2, LAWRENCE 1: Whitney Pollard scored for the Bulldogs off an assist from Nicole Guimond, but it wasn't enough as the Red Eddies earned the KVAC A victory in Auburn.
Jordan Carter made four saves for Lawrence (2-1), which had one penalty corner in the game. Edward Little is now 3-0.
BOYS SOCCER
MESSALONSKEE 5, SKOWHEGAN 1: David Rossignol had a pair of goals and Matt DelGiudice had a goal and two assists as the Eagles defeated the Indians in a KVAC A game in Oakland.
Nate Snow and Josh Gilbert also scored for Messalonskee, which improves to 2-1-0. Sergio Servello and Andrew Wilson combined to make eight saves.
John Wheaton scored the lone goal for Skowhegan (0-3-0) and Nick Beaulieu had six saves.
MT. BLUE 3, LAWRENCE 0: Devin Zamboni made seven saves for the shutout win at Fairfield.
Mustafa Savashan, Ben Russell and Jamie Sawyer each scored for Mt. Blue (3-0). Cody Fabian made 12 saves for Lawrence (1-2).
ISLESBORO 9, AVERILL 1: Jason Hatch, Jesse Tutor and Don Johnson each scored a pair of goals to lift Islesboro to the Class D coed win.
Zach Morse scored for Averill (0-1), with an assist from Derek Cole. Josh Gagnon made 14 saves for Averill, while Peter Anderson had three saves for Islesboro (1-0).
WINTHROP 3, MT. ABRAM 1: Tim Gingras scored a goal in each half to lead the Ramblers to the Mountain Valley Conference win in Winthrop.
Natkamol Kaewpunna added a goal and an assist for Winthrop (1-1). Ryan Michaud made 12 saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
WATERVILLE 6, NOKOMIS 0: Freshman Jordan Pellerin scored four second half goals and Taylor Hart made four saves to lead the Panthers to the shutout over the Warriors.
Paige Gardiner scored both first half goals for Waterville (3-0). Kat Ouellette made 14 saves for Nokomis (0-3).
MESSALONSKEE 2, SKOWHEGAN 1: Ali Olmsberg had two assists as the Eagles scored twice in the second half to earn a KVAC A win over the Indians in Skowhegan.
Ari Perry and Kate Grenier scored a minute apart in the second half for Messalonskee (1-2-0). Eloise Douglass and Katie Bingham combined to make eight saves for the Eagles.
Angie Camillo scored with an assist from Adrienne Davis to give Skowhegan (0-2-0) a 1-0 lead in the first half. Crystal Johnson had 15 saves for the Indians.
