Gaudet heats up in Colby win

The Mules face Babson College in the title game today at 3 p.m. at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Gaudet also had seven rebounds and three assists. Drew Cohen scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half for Colby (3-2), which led 47-26 at the break. Andrew Jenkins added 13 points. Colby shot 64 percent in the first half (16-for-25) and ended up at 55 percent for the game. Jeff Jean-Baptiste led Brooklyn College (4-1) with 17 points. BABSON 53, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 51: David Votta hit two free throw with 1.6 seconds left to lift Babson to the win in the first round of the Colby Invitational at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Votta made a steal around midcourt and drove to the basket on the right side and was fouled with 1.6 seconds to play. He sank both free throws and UMF was unable to get off a final shot. Brian Parson had a game-high 20 points and six rebounds for Babson (3-3). Matt St. John of Wayne led UMF (4-1) with 18 points, while Travis Magnusson had 11 points and five assists. NORWICH 91, THOMAS 79: Geoff Hensley and Rens Cheatham each scored 24 points to lead the Cadets to the win at Northfield, Vt., in game one of the Ed Hockenbury Classic. Dan Grappi led Thomas (0-3) with 24 points. Norwich (2-2) never trailed and led by as many as 25 points. HARTFORD 76, MAINE 72: Senior Kenny Adeleke had 18 points and three other Hawks scored in the double figures as Hartford beat Maine in Hartford. Adeleke also had 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Ernest Turner led Maine (1-5, 0-1 America East) with 22 points. The Hawks (3-2, 1-0 America East) jumped out to a quick 13-2 lead in the first five minutes. But the Black Bears came back to tie it 21-21 with 7:30 to play in the half. Maine took the lead a minute later on a three-pointer from Turner and increased the margin to four on a three-pointer by Freddy Petkus. Hartford led 35-34 at halftime. But the Black Bears scored to open the second half and led by as many as four points before the Hawks regained the lead for good. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EMMANUEL 63, COLBY 58: Alyssa McCoy scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Emmanuel to the win in Boston. Emmanuel (3-2) led 32-23 at the half, but Colby rallied in the second half. There were 10 lead changes and eight ties in the game, but the Mules were plagued by 28 turnovers. Katie McCabe had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Colby (4-1). Kate Emery had 16 points and 11 boards for the Mules, while Waterville's Tracy Nale had six points and five rebounds. NORWICH 78, THOMAS 62: The Cadets shot 54 percent from the floor to take the Hockenbury Classic tournament in Northfield, Vt. Monica Selander led Norwich (3-2) with 23 points. Maranacook graduate Toby Martin had 22 points for Thomas (3-2), while Amanda Godley added 15. ALSO ON SATURDAY: Mt. Blue graduate Billy Russo scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead UMaine-Ft. Kent to a 71-49 win over UMaine-Presque Isle in the consolation game of the Paul Bunyon tournament at Husson College in Bangor. Bates defeated Husson 81-68 in the championship game, behind Rob Stockwell's 17 points and 15 boards. Mallory Nutting of Gardiner scored for the Buffalo State women's hockey team in a 2-1 loss against Neumann. |
