Forest Hill High School spring sports previews
SOFTBALL
Coach: Ernie Giroux (15th season)
Last season: 9-6, reached Western D semifinals
Top returners: P Crystal Allen (Sr.), 3B Elise Begin (Sr.), SS/P Jasmine Worster (Sr.), LF/C Jessica Worster (Sr.), RF Bianca Giroux (Sr.), 2B Rochelle Jalbert (Fr.)
Key newcomers: CF Catherine Forge (Jr.), UT Linda Varney (Jr.), UT Jasmine Giroux (So.), C Erica Turner (8th), UT Kaylee Bridges (8th), UT Bailey Brown (8th)
Outlook: The Tigers return only four starters, and all four started on the successful girls basketball team this winter. Allen's experience on the mound is a big plus for Forest Hills, and Coach Giroux said the Worster twins are talented enough to play any position. The Tigers will need consistent hitting to play with the top teams in Western D.
Coach's comment: "With a lot of hard work and commitment, I like our chances of making the tournament."
Baseball
Coach: James Caron (2nd season)
Last season: 6-10, reached Western D semifinals
Top returners: Cory Plante (Jr., 1B), Max Bradford (Jr., 2B-OF), Josh Mercure (So., SS-3B-P), Spencer Conrad (So., OF), Michael Amaya (So., 1B-C), Dillon McNally (So., C-P), Kevin Brackett (Fr., OF), Miles Achey (Fr., OF)
Key newcomers: Kyle Fitzpatrick (Jr., P-3B), Derek Ouellette (8th, OF-IF), Evan Worster (8th, 3B-P)
Outlook: The Tigers don't have much depth, so every player is going to have to be versatile. A pitcher last season, Plante is coming off of shoulder surgery and could be limited to first base. Mercure will be the top starter, with McNally also seeing a lot of innings.
Coach's comment: "We play as a team much better than last year."
