SOUTH CHINA -- Gregory B. Davis Sr., age 61, of the Parmenter Hill Road, died Sept. 25, 2009, at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Augusta on April 22, 1948, the son of Elden B. Davis and Carmen (Farrington) Davis.

Greg was a 1967 graduate of Erskine Academy.

He was employed by Kempton Tobey & Son Inc. as a driver and heavy equipment operator. He worked for them faithfully for 44 years. Greg loved the outdoors, the ocean, the Red Sox and was dedicated to his family.

Greg was predeceased by his father, Elden Davis; his mother, Carmen Stowe; and his step-father, Earl Stowe.

Surviving is his wife, Maryann (Staples) Davis of South China; four sons: Kurt and wife Jen, Justin and wife Wendy, Reggie, and Greg Jr.; one daughter, Tamra Davis and significant other Eric; four brothers: Pat, Jeff, John and Bernard; two half-brothers: Mike and Tony; one half-sister, Gloria Russell; 12 grandchildren: Kayla, Sara, Brandon, Amber, Emily, Sam, Dylan, Derek, Reggie, Bridget, Christian and Sebastian; and several special nieces and nephews.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at China Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chadwick Hill Cemetery, China.
