EARL T. NELSON 1924-2005

He was born June 17, 1924, in Anson, and was one of 12 children of LaBarron and Bertha (Smith) Nelson Sr. He was educated in the schools of Anson. He married Lorraine Arris on Sept. 26, 1946, in Madison. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. While in the army he was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action on the Fifth Army front in Italy during World War II. After the war Earl worked several years for Great Northern Paper Co. He then worked as a lumberman with his sons for more than 25 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the VFW in Solon. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing and working outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Nelson of North Anson; four sons, Byron "Buzz" Nelson of Anson, David and Amy Nelson of Bingham, Tom and Patsy Nelson of North Anson and Michael Nelson of Effingham Falls, N.H.; four brothers, Donald, Robert, Neil and Alan; a sister, Betty Ann Douglass; nine grandchildren, Brian, Kimberly, Zackary, Lukas, Brock, Dylan, Michelle, Ashley and Wyatt; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; also a special friend, Joyce Nelson of North Anson. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Walker Cemetery, Mutton Hill Road, Anson. Arrangements are under the direction of Dan & Scott's Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan.
