AUGUSTA -- Five people were sentenced this week in separate hearings held in Kennebec County Superior Court:

* Valentine J. Polchies of Winslow, 46, of Winslow, unlawful trafficking in marijuana, cultivation of marijuana and two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs Sept. 30 in Winslow; nine-month jail sentence, $1,600 in fines.

* David W. Berube, 32, of Augusta, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs Feb. 25 in Augusta; three-year jail sentence, all but 30 days suspended, two years' probation, $400 fine.

* Stephen Dingus, 27, of Gardiner, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs Sept. 24 in Gardiner; 12-hour jail sentence.

* Jared Kremin, 34, of Portland, theft, Aug. 19 in Augusta; three-year jail sentence all suspended, two years' probation.

* Samuel R. Smith, of Randolph, 19, theft, May 9 in Gardiner, criminal mischief and violating condition of release Sept. 5 in Gardiner; 14-day jail sentence, $4 restitution.
