AUGUSTA -- A Fairfield man was indicted Thursday on charges relating to a marijuana-growing operation in Albion.

Jason Low, 35, is charged with cultivating and trafficking marijuana. After Kennebec County deputies executed a search warrant Sept. 9 at a residence in Albion, they discovered about 730 marijuana plants and an "elaborate marijuana grow operation," District Attorney Everett Fowle said.

"This is a very significant marijuana seizure," he said.

In 1988, when Low was 14 years old, he was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter -- in a case where a person was killed -- and committed to a youth center. His criminal record also includes a felony operating under the influence conviction from 2001 and an OUI conviction from 2005, among other convictions, according to the district attorney.

"He has a significant record," Fowle said.

Low faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Low's bail was set at $200,000 cash at his Oct. 28 bail hearing. He remains at Somerset County Jail.
