PITTSFIELD -- A local man escaped injury Thursday when his truck burst into flames in a field, Fire Chief Bernard Williams said.

Thomas Booth had his Chevy truck parked in a field on his property, off Canaan Road, when heavy black smoke and fire appeared from underneath the hood, Williams said. Booth ran back to his house to call 911 around 12:30 p.m.

By the time 10 Pittsfield firefighters arrived, the truck was fully engulfed and was destroyed, Williams said. Firefighters quickly doused the flames, which had spread to grass and leaves surrounding the truck. They were at the scene for about a half-hour.

No one was injured, Williams said.
