Industry firefighters responded quickly to the 1:21 a.m. fire call and, with the help of crews from Farmington and New Sharon, prevented the flames from spreading to nearby camps only 30-feet away, said Chief Joe Paradis. Paradis said about 30 firefighters responded.
The camp belongs to John and Anne Craig of Temple. Paradis said John Craig had owned the camp for decades and their grandson had been having a party at the camp when the fire started.
There was no structural damage but the interior walls and ceilings had to be ripped down to get at the flames, he said. The camp was insured. Paradis said he did not have an estimate on the damage.
He said the fire destroyed everything on the walls including some art work and many photos. Fortunately, they will be able to be reproduced since at the Craigs' recent 50th wedding anniversary, a relative had digitized all the pictures in order to share them with family members.
