Attempts to contact Aaron Sorenson or Steve DiPietro have not been successful. But their restaurant/bar has been closed since September.
Jeff Austin, supervisor for the Department of Public Safety Liquor Licensing and Inspections, said Tuesday that the agency must be careful regarding such decisions.
"It's a lengthy process," Austin said. "You're dealing with a town, and a person's livelihood. You have to be correct statutorily. The decision must be based on substance and the law."
The Antler's Inn owners appealed to the state during a meeting with state officials on Jan. 30. The board of selectmen said it denied Antler's Inn its liquor license due to public intoxication, disorderly conduct and health-code violations. First Selectman Steve Steward also said that the owners opened the bar downstairs without permission from the town.
Steward said he has been expecting a decision from the state.
"We haven't heard a word -- not a peep," Steward said. "The liquor commission said it would be six to eight weeks, and it's been about that long. I'm expecting something soon."
Responding on Jan. 31 to alleged complaints to the Somerset County's Sheriff's Office, DiPietro produced a letter from the office stating that deputies never received complaints.
DiPietro also said the Antler's Inn needs a liquor license in order to renovate the Main Street building and its 22 inn rooms into a four-season establishment.
