The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m., said Newport Police Lt. Randy Wing, who responded to the call at the Gilman Trailer Park along with officer Tim Hall. Wing would not release the names of the occupants of the residence nor the suspects.
A single man lived in the mobile home, Wing said, and there were no injuries.
"There was a weapon used, a handgun, and money was demanded," Wing said Monday night. "The suspects fled the scene when police were called. We currently do have suspects and we're in the process of securing arrest warrants. We are actively looking for them."
Wing and Hall were at the trailer park a minute after the call came in, but the suspects got away faster. The trailer park is accessible by Route 2 and Route 100/7, and Interstate 95 is close by.
