Oakland Police Capt. Charles "Rick" Stubbert III said police arrested Robert Nason, 42, on several charges, including aggravated driving to endanger.
Stubbert said police also charged Nason with refusing to stop for a police officer and aggravated operation after habitual revocation.
Nason, who posted the $300 cash bail, faces a Jan. 27 arraignment at Augusta Superior Court.
Stubbert said Oakland officer Gary Bowman and reserve officer Ryan Johnston signaled Nason to pull over after they noticed his car had an expired inspection sticker.
Nason, driving on Church Street, responded by increasing his speed in an effort to elude police, Stubbert said.
Stubbert said Bowman pursued but not at a high speed.
"What was particularly impressive in my mind," he said, "is the officers didn't get into a high-speed chase but stayed just close enough behind so they could still see him."
Stubbert said Nason soon left his car and tried to flee on foot only to be run down by Bowman and Johnston.
