The road closing may cause significant traffic delays downtown, Rumsey said.
The building, and particularly the tower located at one corner, are situated very close to Main Street.
To ensure that no damage will occur to passing vehicles, the street will be closed while demolition takes place, according to Rumsey. Traffic will be detoured through nearby city streets. Construction company flaggers and police officers will be on hand to direct traffic.
Anyone with questions is asked to call the Police Department at 680-4700.
The building is being razed to make way for a new Rite Aid store.
