The woman is described as being in her 20s, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 140-pounds, wearing glasses and pants and had her hair in a ponytail.
The witnesses were not able to recall the color of her hair, and she was on foot, Farmington police Officer Ed Hastings said on Saturday.
On Saturday, the victim told Hastings she invited the saleswoman into her home and was writing out a check for a subscription.
It was not until after the woman left that the victim realized her cash was missing.
Hastings canvassed the residential neighborhood and found another person who said she also had purchased a subscription.
Both residents said the saleswoman talked her way into the house and extended her visit by asking to use the bathroom. The company allegedly distributing the subscriptions is Atlantic Circulation.
Hastings said he contacted the firm, using information on a receipt, but there is no one at the office until Monday.
He also obtained information indicating there have been numerous consumer complaints made against Atlantic that involved magazine subscriptions that never arrived and unsuccessful attempts by victims to recover their money.
"I am concerned about this and fear that this could be a larger scam. If anyone has seen the woman or bought a subscription from anyone claiming to be from Atlantic Circulation, please call the Farmington police Department," he said.
For information, call the Farmington Police Department at 778-6311.
