PALMYRA -- A lone man armed with a knife entered a Lang Hill Road home Tuesday night, threatening the woman living there and demanding money, police say.
Several deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff's Department and Maine State Police converged on the scene shortly after the 8:59 p.m. report.
Somerset County Sheriff's Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi said the man left after obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area on foot.
Gottardi said police were told the man restrained the victim with duct tape. He did not say how she got loose, and he declined to release her name. No injuries were reported.
A woman at the home near the Palmyra Golf Course came to the front window late Wednesday morning and spoke through the screen, but declined a request for an interview. A large, dark-colored dog barked at the door.
The robber is described as being about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He was said to be wearing dark clothes and a red bandanna over his face.
Sheriff's detectives and several sheriff's deputies responded, along with the sheriff's canine. Further assistance was provided by the Maine State Police and the Newport Police Department.
Gottardi said the incident is still under investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff's Department's criminal division.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the sheriff's department at (800) 452-1933 or the anonymous tip line at 474-0230.
