SOLON -- The historic South Solon Meeting House on Sunday will host the second in a series of musical events that seek to explore the sound and musical potential of Maine places.

"Sounds in Space: Part 2" is set for 3 p.m. at the meeting house.

Musicians creating the installation include Brian Richmond on saxophone and wind synthesizer; Don Stratton, trumpet; Chris York, shakuhatchi flute; and Galen Richmond, circuit bent electronics.

Also performing will be Unintended Consequences, a collection of unusual musical instruments featuring Abby Shahn on African instruments and harmonica; James Fangbone on the Soloio (a two-string instrument constructed of an olive oil can); Wally Warren playing his own "hubcap gamelan" -- a kind of musical sculpture; Ben Levine on flutes, Tuvan throat singing and didgeridoo; and Paul Lebrun on percussion and flutes.

This installation includes no written music or plan, according to a release. It is an opportunity for the musicians involved to respond spontaneously to the unique qualities of the South Solon Meeting House and to one another.

A $5 donation will be accepted to go toward the restoration of the South Solon Meeting House.
