Because the New England Music Camp is tuning up for its 72nd season.
The distinguished camp for aspiring student musicians, located here on the shores of Messalonskee Lake, just four miles south of Oakland, opens its paths and doors for 200 students, between the ages of 12 and 17, beginning Sunday.
Students attend either a four-week session in July or a three-week session in August, said camp spokeswoman Ursula Chamberland.
Music instruction takes place in the mornings with campers having the opportunity to participate in the camp's Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Stage Band, Jazz Ensemble and Chorale. Afternoons are filled with athletics and typical summer camp activities.
But the camp isn't just for the campers.
The students and several faculty members will perform free Sunday concerts at the Bowl in the Pines, the camp's large outdoor stage. Bring a favorite chair or sit back on camp benches to soak in the sounds.
Saturday concerts will be held at 3 p.m. July 12, 19, and Aug. 9
Sunday concerts at New England Music Camp are held, rain or shine, also at 3 p.m., on June 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27; and Aug. 3 and 10.
The camp's Treble Choir, Concert Orchestra and Concert Band will perform July 4, 11, 16, 18; and Aug. 1, 6, 8.
