Farmington Recreation Department to offer several summer programs

FARMINGTON -- Swimming, fishing, playground day camp, mountain biking, soccer, baseball, self-defense and golfing are just a sampling of the summer programs being offered by the Farmington Recreation Department for children around the region this summer.

Some programs fill up quickly and registration opens Monday for a number of activities.

Sign-up for swim classes starts at 9 a.m. Monday for Farmington residents and Farmington child care providers at the Community Center at 12 Middle St. On Tuesday and for the remainder of the week, any vacancies will be filled. Swim classes are held at the Hippach Field wading pool and the University of Maine at Farmington's Health & Fitness Center.

Other programs are Junior Olympic Development Track Team, June 17 to Aug. 9, with registration at the Community Center at 5 p.m. June 17;

Supervised Fishing on July 3; Hippach Field Playground program, June 23 to Aug. 15; Introduction to Golf, June 30 to July 16; Youth Self-Defense, June 19 to July 24; Paul Blauvelt Baseball, July 7 to 18; and Tennis, July 22 to Aug. 14.

Also, Mountain Biking Challenge, June 17 to 20; Pre-Season Soccer Camp, Aug. 4 to 7; Lacrosse, July 7 to 30; Introduction to Wrestling, June 23 to July 16.
