SKOWHEGAN -- St. Albans Selectmen Monday night announced they would be hiring Skowhegan Town Clerk Rhonda Stark as the town's new town manager.

Stark, of Canaan, replaces Larry Post, whose resignation is effective June 30, after having served in the job for 30 years.

A 25-year-employee at the Skowhegan office, Stark currently serves as town clerk, treasurer, tax collector, office supervisor and passport agent. She said she is aware of at least some of the decade-old controversies that continue to rock St. Albans.

"They briefed me a little, and I've seen some of it in the newspaper," Stark said on Tuesday. "But from what I've been told, everything has been settled in the courts, and I'm just going in."

Perennial issues included an eminent domain squabble and the performance of the former town manager. Stark will take office June 16 and said she is excited about the prospect of working in St. Albans.

She plans to "use common sense and go forward" in dealing with various issues that may arise or persist.

"I'm extremely excited," she said. "I will miss Skowhegan. I mean, 25 years is a long time to work anywhere, and it's been my whole career. I was not ready to give up municipal government, but I was ready to move on."

Darla Pickett contributed to this report.
