Aaron Engstrom, 40, of Newport, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon as well as resisting arrest and burglary, said Chief Leonard Macdaid of the Newport Police.
Engstrom was reportedly wielding the putty knife when he kicked down the door to a Highland Avenue home around 3:13 p.m. Once inside, Engstrom was confronted by his father and brother, one of whom reportedly grabbed a baseball bat in defense, Macdaid said.
The charges had been dropped and Engstrom had been released from Penobscot County Jail by Monday morning. The charges were dropped so the case could be taken out of Penobscot County Superior Court, Macdaid said. The same charges will now be filed in Newport District Court, he said.
