In Friday's municipal elections, First Selectmen Bruce Clavette, Second Selectman Chuck Rotondi and Third Selectmen Guy Anton ran unopposed for one-year terms. But at the annual town meeting on Saturday, voters agreed with Clavette that, next year, there will be staggered two-year terms.
Accordingly, the first selectman will run for just one year in 2009. The second and third selectmen will run for two-year terms, and in 2010 the first selectman will run for a two-year term.
Clavette said earlier that the change renders more stability to the board.
Later Clavette won a salary raise from $9,500 to $12,000. Clavette also handles much of the town's clerical work.
Also in Friday's elections, incumbent John Barron retained his job as road commissioner. Barron got 72 votes to 45 for Dwight Weese and 19 for Tim Small.
