January 30
BOYS BASKETBALL Hampden 57, Mt. Blue 46: Jacob Moore and Brad Dolan each scored 16 points to lead the Broncos past the Cougars in KVAC A play in Farmington. Noah Burditt added 14 points for Hampden. Jamie Sawyer led Mt. Blue (12-4) with 15 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL Hampden 47, Mt. Blue 39: Kayla Webb scored a team-high 23 points to lead the Broncos to the KVAC Class A win in Farmington. Julia Snyder added seven points for Hampden (4-12), who outscored Mt. Blue (0-16) 18-8 in the fourth quarter. The Cougars were led by Sabrina Keach with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
January 23 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 91, Leavitt 41: Ben Russell scored 32 points, hauled in 10 rebounds and had seven steals to lead the Cougars to the KVAC Class A win in Farmington. Jamie Sawyer added 22 points and seven assists for Mt. Blue (11-3). Leavitt (3-11) was led by Doug Nash with 19 points.
January 27 GIRLS BASKETBALL Brewer 57, Mt. Blue 43: Sheri Valley scored 21 points to lead the Witches to the KVAC Class A win in Farmington. Leah Jackson added 10 points for the winners while Sabrina Keach paced Mt. Blue (0-15) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
January 23 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 91, Leavitt 41: Ben Russell scored 32 points, hauled in 10 rebounds and had seven steals to lead the Cougars to the KVAC Class A win in Farmington. Jamie Sawyer added 22 points and seven assists for Mt. Blue (11-3). Leavitt (3-11) was led by Doug Nash with 19 points.
January 16 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 64, Oxford Hills 56: After trailing by 14, the Mt. Blue boys basketball team exploded in the third quarter to beat Oxford Hills in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A play Friday. The Cougars dominated the third quarter 24-6. Jordan Hoyt scored nine of his 15 points during the quarter for Mt. Blue (10-3). Ben Russell led all scorers with 20 points while Jamie Sawyer (13) and Cam Sennick (12) were also in double figures. Oxford Hills (6-7) was led by Josh Childs with 15 points. January 13 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 71, Nokomis 35: Ben Russell scored 17 points to lead the Cougars to the KVAC Class A win in Farmington. Jamie Sawyer added 11 points for Mt. Blue (9-3) while Ryan Backus had five points and nine rebounds. Nokomis was led by Jordan Richards with a game-high 18 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL Nokomis 44, Mt. Blue 38: Marissa Shaw scored 15 points to lead the Warriors to the KVAC Class A win in Newport. Mary Badeen and Kara Batchelder each scored eight points for Nokomis (7-5). Sabrina Keach led Mt. Blue (0-12) with 14 points.
January 10 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 65, Lawrence 23: Jamie Sawyer scored 17 points to lead the Cougars to the KVAC Class A win in Fairfield. Ben Russell added 15 points for Mt. Blue (8-3). Lawrence (6-5) was led by Bobby Belanger with 11 points.
January 8 BOYS BASKETBALL Messalonskee 73, Mt. Blue 29: Ben Russell scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the third quarter to help the Mt. Blue boys basketball team beat Messalonskee in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A play Thursday night. Mt. Blue (7-3) outscored Messalonskee 26-7 during the third quarter and allowed no more than eight points in any quarter to steadily pull away. Ryan Backus had 12 points and seven steals for the Cougars while Jamie Sawyer added four points and nine assists. Matt Willette, Luke Bartlett and Brian Bolduc all scored seven for Messalonskee.
GIRLS BASKETBALL Messalonskee 81, Mt. Blue 31: Kaitlyn Deering had 18 points as the Eagles defeated the Cougars in a KVAC A game in Oakland. Jess Charles added 10 points and Mickee McAfferty pulled down eight rebounds for Messalonskee (9-1). Jess Bridges chipped in with seven points and five steals. Jenna Williams had nine points for Mt. Blue (2-8).
December 30 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 69, Brewer 57: Ryan Backus had 15 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars handed the Witches their first loss of the season in Farmington. Jamie Sawyer added 17 points and Ben Russell 15 for Mt. Blue (6-1). Tyler Bessette had 17, while Dom Drake and Coby Hutchins each had 10 for Brewer (6-1).
December 23 GIRLS BASKETBALL Leavitt 73, Mt. Blue 38: Adrianna Newton had 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Hornets beat the Cougars in a KVAC A game in Turner. Courtney Anderson added 18 points, eight assists and seven steals for Leavitt (3-3). Sabrina Keach had nine points for Mt. Blue (0-6). December 16 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 68, Skowhegan 36: Ryan Backus had a strong all-around game, finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds and seven steals to lift the Cougars in Farmington. Ben Russell scored a game-high 20 points for Mt. Blue (4-0) while Jamie Sawyer added 18 and Jordan Hoyt 10. The Cougars, who had six 3-pointers by five different players, led 40-10 at halftime. Jordan Taylor scored nine points to lead Skowhegan (1-3). GIRLS BASKETBALL Skowhegan 60, Mt. Blue 27: Whitney Jones had 14 points as the Indians cruised to a KVAC A win in Skowhegan. Kaley Brown added 10 points for Skowhegan (3-1). December 13 BOYS BASKETBALL Mt. Blue 89, Nokomis 36: Ben Russell scored 37 points to lead the Cougars to the KVAC Class A win in Newport. Jamie Sawyer added 17 points for Mt. Blue (3-0) while Ryan Backus and Adam Wiles-Rosell each had 10. Nokomis (0-3) was led by Jordan Richards with 15 points. Dec. 5 GIRLS BASKETBALL
