I hate to say it, but when you take the amount of people who live in Maine, who walk on sidewalks, I don't think we have a high incident rate of people being struck down. It does happen, but not a constant.."

--About 7 pedestrians hit up in Skowhagen,Maine in 5 years time, that does not seem high? About 4-5 in Farmington,Maine in 3 years time. Thats off the top of memory for starters.

And the fact a pedestrian got struck and killed in a crosswalk in Fairfield,Maine with the driver not facing any charges is disgraceful.report abuse

Should never, ever walk down a sidewalk in Maine if you're from Boston. In fact, shouldn't even read the papers if you hate the place so much.

I don't read Boston papers, and I very rarely ever walk or even find myself within Mass at all. I'm happy.

Suggest a fence... they make good neighbors. Say, on a line between Freeport and Oxford, to the NH border, then north to Canada. It'll keep the scum and drugs from Mass out, and our guns in.report abuse

""'You'd think walking down the sidewalk would be a safe location," Maine State Police Trooper Rogers said'"

--Sorry Maine trooper, I would never think walking down a sidewalk in Maine is safe and no Mainer should ever think that. About 4 years ago a 15 yo was mowed down and killed on a sidewalk in Corrina(or Cornitha).

Then you have about two dozen Mainers in the past decade struck while walking in crosswalks. Some killed like the Mainer up in Fairfield,Maine, NO CHARGES to the driver.

Then you have the Skowhegan man mowing his front lawn when a car went flying off the roadway and killed him.

Never think walking on a sidewalk or anywhere in Maine is a safe location.

Happy Independence Day! Unless your walking somewhere in Mainereport abuse
