It seems to me that money is not the answer. It seems to me that more money has been spent on mental health services to date than at any other time in history and the rates seem to be rising. Could it be that fostering dependency on systems is not clinically correct? Who are the real winners? I dare say it is the providers of services who benefit from clinically incorrect services rather than the individuals they inappropriately treat. Perhaps educating parents on the signs of trouble brewing would be a more natural and effective approach to this issue. Perhaps sending the money to the schools and making it a mandatory piece of care giver participation is the answer. Afterall, if parents know what to look for, they are the most natural provider of assistance to thier child. All the crisis intervention in the world will not and can not replace the attention of a well advised care giver. Time to walk away from systems that treat based on fear of being sued "if" someone acts on his/her threats to whatever verses what is truly appropriate for the health of the client. A more involved and acknowledge care giver is the single most important predictor of success when dealing with young persons. Too often systems render care givers as problematic to the child based on subjective opinions of workers and therefore the parent is negated and seen as not necessary in the treatment process and are often intentionally kept out of the loop. That does not make any sense to me.report abuse
