Mom and dad are in the best seat to determine whether or not "Little Johnny" is capable of handing the family sled, or his own.
There is an upper limit to the weight and power a teenager is going to be able to handle safely. There is an upper limit to what an adult can handle safely, unless they've got the ultimate safety device engaged at all times, their brain.report abuse

See-saws on school grounds
Parades where children rode on firetrucks, we learned to hang on.
Fireworks were enjoyed in a family backyard, M-80's & cheerybombs were so loud!
Worn out cars were turned into field bombs, where many of us learned to drive. Driving @ 12 in a dusty field racing a friend in another beats any video game.
Parents should decide petty issues such as this.
I grew up when it was a crime to hurt someone else. It was not a crime to have fun or accidently hurt yourself.
We survived, and had way more fun than in todays Nanny-State.report abuse
