This concept reminds of another similar idea that actually was completed and has now wasted millions of state and federal tax dollars - the Downeast Heritage Center in Calais. That was supposed to be a huge draw for the entire region, but look what happened to that...it failed and is CLOSED.

If the doctor thinks this is such a good idea, he should invest in it himself and leave the taxpayers out it. It's not the job of government to run a ski resort, that's why we have a private-sector.report abuse

This is a terrible idea for countless reasons! For starters:
1) If the city is going to sell the property and let a private company try-this-experiment, we won't have any risk for the taxpayers. Otherwise, if the city wants to go into the ski resort business, how do you spell SOCIALISM?
2) Since Maine Winter Sports already has a world class facility up in Fort Kent, there is no need to build another one in Maine.
3) Augusta doesn't get enough snow to compete with existing centers like Fort Kent and Lake Placid.
4) The ultimate money question, and we taxpayers can't afford yet another tax to pay for these stupid dreams floating around Maine.

It's time for a wake-up call in Augusta, before all state taxpayers get put on-the-hook to pay for another bad idea.report abuse
