I agree with "inland of Somerset" concerning nancy54's comment. If she is so concerned why don't she offer her services at the Elks Club. I'm sure they could use some help with food prep, serving and even clean-up. Better still, why don't she spend a few hours going to grocery stores etc and ask about donations, I'm sure that the Elks aren't trying to make any money on the deal and are just trying to cover their costs and they would appreciate any donations they could get. All those folks at the Elks will also be spending their day away from their own families to help put the meal together.
Nancy54 don't complain of what others are doing or when they should be doing it be grateful that that donor in Norridgewok & Skowheagn is doing something....what are YOU doing????? not standing in line waiting for a free meal some place, I hope. If you have the energy to complain then you have the energy to do something about it!!!report abuse

In time of need no matter who the person is, I give them credit for helping out someone other than themselves. Thanksgiving is to be thankful for what you have. Times are tough today and for those who will benefit from the dinner, have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And to the individuals who will prepare the meal, serve, and clean up they deserve a pat on the back. To the individual who picked up the tab, thank you.report abuse

Well, Nancy54. Why should “they” do anything at all? If you're so interested in feeding the hungry why don’t you do something about it? And don’t forget these same folks eat 365 days a year, so remember to invite them to your house 3 times a day all year round.
Oh. And be sure they can get the wheelchairs and walkers in your front door so you don’t get sued for lack of access because of ADA. And don’t forget that some may have dietary restrictions so be sure to have dietetic and salt-free and low spice and hot and spicy and low-cal, and extra fiber, et, etc, etc.
Someone decides to do something and people come out complaining. Get off you butt and go do something. Anything.report abuse

Now wait a minute. I saw a news clip of this 'feel good' story on a Maine newspaper internet website.

The mystery donor says he(she) will pick up the tab. Saying is many times not the same as paying.

The news report says a handicap person was complaining the restaurant may not be handicap accessible for them.

Here's hoping for a wonderful Thanksgiving. But to quote a well-known fat former Mainer that is on a Boston radio station: No good deed goes unpunishedreport abuse
