There is one PetsMart here in Roanoke, VA where I live now. They have posted on the front doors of their store that they do not sell puppies because they feel there are too many abandoned dogs in shelters all across the country as it is. They encourage their shoppers to visit the local SPCA and adopt a homeless animal there instead. As a matter of fact, from time to time, they will allow the local SPCA or other K9 rescue organizations to bring in their dogs that are ready and suitable for adoption. These allegations that HSUS brings to the table seems very suspicious, at best.report abuse

The public needs to learn the truth about HSUS - they are simply Peta in a pantsuit! I actually prefer Peta, as at least they are honest, and upfront about their extreme agenda, while, the HSUS "pretends" to help the animals. Hardly. They are a WEALTHY lobbying organization, that does not actually run ANY Humane Societies. They rarely give that information out. Most people "think" HSUS is a shelter, or runs shelters, and this is a big problem for rational, kind-hearted people. They are duped into donating huge amounts of money, thinking it will help animals, when in fact, it lines the pocketbooks of execs, lobbyists, lawyers, etc.
Our state has fallen into this as well, with Norma Worley heading the Dept of Animal Welfare.
There is soon to be an investigation of the Dept, as they have crossed the lines of Constitutionality many times, ruined people's lives, at taxpayers expense. Many of the raids are now costing more taxpayers, and they are now in court. People are not standing for the false claims promoted by HSUS, Worley and the state.
The raids are being conducted like an FBI sting, when in fact, there were other alternatives that could have been used.

Time for Mainers to wake up to what is happening in this state.report abuse

Joe is right about the HSUS and they want to end animal ownership. There are HSUS ties to the State of Maine animal welfare dept. You can read about it here http://www.rao-of-me.com/ There is a hidden AR agenda in the Dept. HSUS is a powerful animal rights lobbyist group not an animal welfare organization.report abuse

HSUS is not a credible organization. They are a step above PETA and their ultimate goal is to make sure animals have the same rights as humans. I am disapointed that this paper gives them any credibility. Please understand this group has nothing to do with any local humane society and donates no money to the local humane societys.report abuse
