I personally fail to see how this sex registery has helped since its implementation. If anything, it seems to me that we are witnessing more and more reports of cases involving minors in the news everyday, whether it's someone caught viewing / downloading child-pornography on the internet, or teachers and preachers getting caught in the act with children. As a matter of fact, in my local newspaper here in Virginia, there was a short article just today of a woman who electronically sent topless photos of herself to a 14 yr male student---from her Sunday School Class!

But then again, maybe we are seeing more cases reported because people today tend to be more comfortable talking about these subjects than they were years ago. I don't know. I recall our teachers having frank discussions with the students. They warned us "Don't talk to strangers---especially if they're driving a van." The reasoning that the teachers provided to us, of course, was because the people in the van might try to run off with our bicycles! ("Horrors!", we thought, "How could someone be so mean?!")

The only thing I have observed, regarding the registries, is blatant discrimination against convicted sex offenders. People still need jobs. In order for their rehabilitation to be effective, they need to be given the opportunity to recirculate within society. And if you're still so worried about your 13 yr old, keep an eye on them! Don't let them go to the mall by themselves. Don't allow them to walk to the corner market by themselves.

As someone once pointed out to me, it's not the registered sex offenders you need to watch out for---it's the unregistered ones!

I agree with one of the other commentators, if we're going to insist on posting sex offenders, why stop there? Why not start posting drunk and drugged drivers? Heck, they're more of a risk to society, aren't they?report abuse

and while i'm at it curious if we all run around with our heads hanging if we ever did a crime not only if we got caught and yes that applies to speeding, we would all be looking down so stop holding your head so high you may be the next targetreport abuse
