OK twclucky... if we use the electoral voting system, since each town passed the vote, then this passed 5-0! Even better.

redsox19 has some of your answers, I could give you more - but there aren't enough characters allowed here to do this well...

Our student enrollment is going down - that means fewer state dollars for local education.
Our state valuation in our towns continues to escalate - that also means fewer state dollars for local education.

China's student population is growing and projected to continue to grow while their state valuation is similar to the other SAD #47 towns.
This will help level, or at least prevent larger drops in state funding.

China will help share the overhead - much the way they were with Winslow.

This helps keep costs down - without adding China, our alternatives to keeping costs down are:
- reduce programs and choices for students
- eliminate jobs

This seems to be a popular forum to bash Dr. Morse - I would just ask any of you... have you ever actually sat down and had a conversation with him?

I would be glad to explain more about why this is a good thing for MSAD #47 and China via email if you wish.report abuse

I'm against the consolidation, but doing nothing would have cost SAD47 a portion of state funding for not complying even though we are big enough to stand alone. Consolidating China is a small price to pay to be within the guide lines. Our anger should be aimed at our Governor for such a proposterous propsal in the first place.report abuse

Does anyone ask Dr. Morse or board members these questions, or do they just rant online? If Dr. Morse makes $125k/year, make him earn it!

Honestly, pick up a phone and call someone! To just read short articles on Morning Sentinel and make your opinion based on that doesn't make sense.report abuse

My mistake Douglas, Morse made approx. $110k in 2006 and almost $15k more in 2007(maineopengov.org) still same result, what for? He specifically said Lori Putnam did not show herself enough, in the hallways of the school, at football games, etc., well where was he? I suppose going to school board meetings one would see him; isn't he required to attend these meetings?! It seems if you are an employee of the district and you speak out and disagree with him he puffs his chest and suddenly your gone! I have read all the articles pertaining to this consolidation and I have yet to see where it will help my kids. How about some specifics from those of you who say it's a good plan! And last I knew popular vote doesn't decide the presidential election, electoral does.report abuse
