Q. 2 starts on page 15 (18 in the PDF doc). The passage that made me decide to vote No is on page 32 (35 in the pdf):
"The president of Evergreen Mountain Enterprises, LLC must be appointed a voting member on
the governing body or board, if any, of each recipient or program funded in this subsection
regarding the allocation of specific funding that is paid by the gaming operator."
So, the president of this Los Vegas company will become a member of the town council/selectmen of the town of Oxford, a member of the Oxford County Board of Commissioners, a member of both the UMaine Trusties and the Community College system board, a member of any city/town government that accepts funds for tax relief from this casino, a member of every school board that accepts funds, and so on.
No one person should have that much power, especially someone who doesn't truly understand Maine.
Read the document for yourself and then make your own judgment. If you're comfortable with this, fine. If you really believe the state legislature will "do the right thing" and fix this, I'm not interested in sharing your ruby-tinted glasses.
I'm not fine with this and intend to vote No.report abuse
