My only contact with Loring was at a Wabanaki studies course at UMO. I went in looking for an understanding of Wabanaki culture and traditions. I was greeted by Donna Loring who basically spent half an hour deriding us "white" people who were only interested in the three credit hours, how all the Wabanaki problems were OUR fault, and how we are all bad, evil people. I almost left after that first moring session's "welcome." Fortunately I didn't, and I met some of the kindest, most gracious, most interesting, and most cultured people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting ... including Wayne Mitchell. Congrats, Mr. Mitchell -- Loring offended SO many of us for SO long, you have a long row to hoe, but don't buy into her negativism. Good luck -- Maine people in general are supportive of Natives, and wish you all good luck, and for you to be held near the bosom of the Great Spirit.report abuse
