I'm a recent graduate of Carrabec High School and one of the best classes I took during my four years there was a Virtual High School class that I took through Madison. I hope S. A. D #74 soon jumps on the wagon! VHS is a great opportunity for kids who want to take classes that can't be offered at their school. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't able to continue taking VHS classes because of the cost that my school couldn't afford or wouldn't pay, but again. I hope this program gets further!report abuse

Sounds like a good program, and a good use of taxpayer dollars. But a few questions...

How will the lucky five (out of 1000 at MHS) be selected? Parent lobbying, favoritism, sports participation, school board members' kids -- all have been factors at Messalonskee in the past.

At about $350 per student, it's very inexpensive compared to online college courses -- is it possible to get more students into the program if parents pay the fees?

Will colleges accept the credits? I can't imagine they wouldn't, or this company would have folded years ago.report abuse
