It's a wonderful concept but do people realize it's nearly fifty years too late! In the 1960's the federal government started a program with the exact same vision and purpose. It is called "Headstart." Millions of taxpayers dollars actually made an incredible difference for young children and families. It was one of the rare SUCCESS stories from our government. It's still going strong with a professional staff that is dedicated and caring. And Headstart is available! Educare is not new,not revolutionary nor groundbreaking. Instead of spending millions starting something "new" investments could have been made in what is already available in Waterville and in every county in Maine.report abuse

What? "It's designed to be a laboratory for visiting teachers and students who want to learn the most up-to-date educational methods for young children."

The Waterville area children are going to be used as laboratory objects? Go to Japan, or any other progressive country and you will see how they succeed with educating children.

My understanding is that Maine and the United States is in a budget crisis, yet more duplicate programs are in the works?

Ten Million Dollars for the building and how much more to operate this program?

The concept is nice, but we cannot afford it. This is yet another political pet/legacy project by the Baldacci Administration, but we're going to be left with a large bill to keep it going.

If you're not familiar with the Downeast Heritage Center in Calais, which now sits closed and serves as a massive burden for the taxpayers of Maine, this new project could have a similar result.

If taxpayer moneys will be involved, let's put it on the ballot and let the people decide before any monies are spent.report abuse
