My 23-year-old nephew was riding his bicycle in N.H., training for a long ride like the Trek across Maine. He and a woman in a van came to an intersection at approximately the same time. She was making a left-hand turn into a side street; he was going straight past the end of the side street. He had the right-of-way, but she didn't give it to him. She made the left-hand turn across his lane, right in front of him. He plowed into the side of the van and was killed instantly.

The driver of the van was older middle-aged, and it had probably been awhile since she had read her driver's manual. Maybe in addition to requiring eye exams, we should require written driving tests every few years to help ensure that people's knowledge of such things as the right-of-way are recently reviewed.report abuse

Now if we could get the socialist liberal democrat legislature out of our pockets and lives and let business invest here without taxing them out of the state so we have decent jobs to ride to, we might have somthing in a "best cyclist state"!

Again, misplaced liberal priorities!report abuse
