How is recovery from bankruptcy that takes 14 to 26 years different from "being trapped in a virtual debtors prison?"

It's interesting that big corporations get bailed out quickly and pretty easily, while the noose keeps tightening around the necks of ordinary citizens--the rules for their bankruptcy recently became extra harsh.

(Incidentally, I own my own home, work full time, and have never needed to declare bankruptcy. I just have sympathy for people who are suffering from the ever-more-stringent bankruptcy rules.)report abuse

What is going to happen to people that walk away from their homes that are foreclosed on. Will they be able to buy a house in the future?
I would like to see the old local Savings Banks return. The first $1,000 in interst on savings deposit should be tax excempt. Interest on home loans should be deductabe without using Itemized form.
