I'll grant you the federal situation doesn't help, but the root of our problems here in Maine are home grown. The lack of even more help from the feds just removes the facade.report abuse

States are "taxing and taxing" to make up for having less and less of our federal income taxes returned to us to support local (state) needs.
Betty, Maine is a welfare state. Maine "takes and takes" far more than it gives. Maine receives $1.41 for every $1.00 it sends to Washington D.C. At the state level, Maine is also a welfare state, draining every cent possible from responsible, hard-working individuals to pay for the masses who have no sense of self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. Maine is doomed. I know many professional people who, like myself, were born and raised here, that are fleeing this disaster of a state. I will certainly join them within the next five years.report abuse
