I agree with other comments here. I'd say the reason the deposit wasn't taken was because the offer was $200 below the asking price. Had the deposit been taken, then you'd have a legit complaint, however, since a full-price offer arrived, I'd have done the same thing. Besides, your mechanic would have found 'something' wrong and you'd have wanted to lower the price further - so the seller was totally within her rights.report abuse

The owner of the car did you a favor...ALWAYS HAVE A USED CAR INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC BEFORE PURCHASING. I purchased a used car from a "friend", before I went to pick it up, the auto start had been removed, tires and mud flaps replaced, and who knows what else. I LEARNED MY LESSON, NEVER, NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM A "FRIEND"report abuse

The seller had a right to sell the car as is to the first buyer who would pay him cash. You expected too much. Did you know the seller ? Was he a friend ? How could he trust you? Your offer was not binding. You could have come back with a lower price.report abuse

Money talks and BS walks.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Deals aren't made on promises.

The deal you're thinking about today....someone else has been thinking about since yesterday.

....and last.....mechanics will ALWAYS find something wrong with a used car.report abuse
