Only Gov. windbag would tell folks to do something they have HAD to do for generations.

OF COURSE Mainers will be burning more wood this year.... we have to depend on ourselves because our government can only hinder any effort we make to better ourselves.report abuse

With SO many more people burning wood this winter, many of whom have never used wood before, there WILL be more fires. Back in the 70's when I began burning wood (one of maybe 10% then), there were still plenty of fires -- even mine, once. Luckily, it was only a chimney fire which the Oakland FD extinguished quickly. But this year -- be careful, Mainers, especially new wood-burners. A series of PSAs on safe woodburning is definitely needed.report abuse

"The governor filmed a public service announcement at A.W. Allen urging consumers to use safety when burning wood to heat their homes, and to refrain from using creosote-treated wood such as railroad ties and telephone poles as fuel, as noxious chemicals are released from them as they burn."

Silly man...a telephone pole won't fit in my woodstove!report abuse
