IT's pretty simple, go back and look at 1992 when Sen Libby Mtchell and a few others drove the insurance industry out of the State. Too many mandates, so they created Dirigo which is a glorified Medicaid system. If it is so good why isn't the State employee in the system? The Union will not allow it. 80,000 were predicted to be enrolled in it by now, there is less than 14,000. Any business would say it has failed and close the doors, but the dictatorship in Augusta says raise more money to fund their pet project. Any normal person can't do that in their own life so why should the Legislature be allowed to raise funds for a failling system. Do what MA has done on Welfare a few years ago. Put a two year time limit on it. It works I know from personal experience with friends it works. A one time welfare lifer, now works owns her own home and doesn't suck anything off the State. So it is pretty simple. One other thing the legislatue should do is downsize, lead by example and downsize but they won't do that they instead voted to give themselves a raise last year.report abuse

This tax that Augusta stuck us with at the eleventh hour would get repealed even if the repeal effort had zero money to spend. Mainers are taxed to death as it is, and Dirigo, like its author, is a failure. Fix the health insurance regulations so that insurers come back to Maine, and at no cost to taxpayers, many more Mainers will be able to afford health insurance. This is, however, too complicated for the average democrat to digest.report abuse

Kid,

I must acknowledge that she is responsible for her actions. I would support rehab and would even help to pay for it if it's criteria for receiving state and or federal aid. This would cut out funds for the dealer and helps support the child. More aggressive collection on child support will help as well.

Cut out the fraud and waste and our support will go further to help those who need it.report abuse
